Partnership with Heifer International

Something that I learned from our trip to the vilage iis that Habitat for Humanity has a partnership with Heifer International. Every time a home is built, the family also receives one cow and ten chickens. The cow often comes pregnant, and the families are taught how to care for the cow, how to care for the calf and how to raise the chickens. After two or three years, the calf has grown and this cow (if a female) is impregnated itself. The family then gives this cow to another family who is receiving a cow from Heifer International. So the cycle continues and the families have access to healthy milk and fresh eggs.
